The First Drive

Sania allait conduire une car pour la première fois aujourd'hui. Elle était scared mais aussi excitée. Son instructeur a dit : "Don't worry, be careful and slow. That's the way to learn."

Sania s'est assise sur le car's seat, les mains sur le wheel. "First, start the engine," a dit l'instructeur. "Then gently press the gas, very slow. Not too fast."

L'instructeur sourit. "You were scared at first, but you were careful. You kept it slow, you stopped when needed, you turned carefully. That's the right way to learn."

Des semaines plus tard, Sania conduisait avec confiance. Elle savait quand appuyer sur le gas, quand brake, quand stop. Elle pouvait turn left, turn right, aller straight, et park parfaitement. La débutante scared avait disparu, remplacée par une conductrice careful, confiante.

"Driving a **car"," dit Sania à ses amies, "is about being careful, not fast. It's about checking left and right before you turn. It's about knowing when to stop, when to go slow, when to press brake. Wheel dans tes mains, seat bien ajusté, les yeux sur le way devant — cela compte. Scared? Oui, au début tout le monde l'est. That's the right way. And when you finally drive away on your own, you'll feel that pride - not because you drive fast, but because you drive right."
