बांग्लादेश के पास समुद्र में मछलियों के भंडार का कोई सटीक estimation नहीं है, और कितना sustainable मछली पकड़ना किया जा सकता है, इसका भी कोई limitation तय नहीं है। इसका कारण यह है कि व्यापक सर्वेक्षण और जांच लंबे समय तक निलंबित थे। 2016 में नए जहाज आर.वी. मीन्संधानी के procurement के बाद assessment फिर से शुरू हुई।

यह सर्वेक्षण समुद्र में 10–200 मीटर गहराई तक के महाद्वीपीय शेल्फ क्षेत्र में किया जाता है।
