Teenagers Guarding the Hillside
In the hill village of Sunamganj, a teenager named Arin called an open meeting with friends. Their village is beautifully situated at the foothills, surrounded by green. Yet the lack of rain created a water shortage for the animals. Arin’s grandmother, once a renowned forest officer, shared stories with the kids. She said, ‘Remember, offering reliable help to nature is our duty.’ She gave a small reminder that every creature eats at a different time. Walking through the forest, they discussed different scenarios. Arin said, ‘Let’s simulate a model so water will stay when it rains.’ They drilled holes in bamboo pipes to sprinkle water slowly. At each step they followed safety standards. The children worked in teams, rolling stones to strengthen the dam steadily. Birds gathered on branches to surround the kids and watch. Suddenly someone shouted and they pressed their shoulders against a big kadam tree to make extra space. Grandma warned, ‘Maintain security; a crab bite could hurt.’ The local science teacher arrived to conduct scrutiny of the project. He praised them, saying, ‘You applied the teaching you learned with care.’ Arin noticed small deer drinking and leaving, giving everyone a huge surprise. Grandma said, ‘Even this little effort can be your ultimate success.’ The children looked to the sky, promising to keep the pond open for wildlife. Arin thought to himself that in this vast universe, even their tiny work would one day become a story.
