Seven Martyrs of the Border
From the river to the other side, even a single glance makes the environment gloomy. In the shaded area beside the Ganeswari river is the resting place of seven martyrs. On July 26, 1971, these brave warriors were martyred in a face-to-face battle with Pakistani soldiers at the intersection of three roads in Nazirpur. Their burial site was made beside the river.
Among the freedom fighters, four were from Mymensingh, two from Netrokona, and one from Jamalpur. Among them, five Muslim martyrs have cemented graves side by side, and two Hindu martyrs are buried right beside them.
The joyful mood of seeing the river earlier suddenly turned into silent reflection. Because of them, we can roam freely, but they are so close yet so far away. How much respect or love we should show to express proper gratitude to them is difficult to understand.
We walked silently for one hour beside the burial site. The desire to see the martyrs' graves had been there for many days, today that desire was fulfilled. Again and again, one thing echoed in the mind—through whose sacrifice we have gained this independence, today I am feeling emotional coming near those seven fearless freedom fighters.
